The Heat is On - Using Blue to Cool Your Home Down

7/6/12

With soaring temps this Summer, we are all looking for easy ways to cool down. Instead of running for the beach, lake or local swimming pool, lets stay inside & decorate 'cool' by using touches of blue.

Try the classic Blue & White by simply swapping pillow covers in fun checks & solids. How about some poke-a-dots instead of checks for a fun modern look.

Etsy is a great place for one of a kind pillow covers. (click the link for some covers)

This back-splash makes such a statement by being the biggest pattern in this kitchen.
Simple touches such as the tiles & rug make this kitchen not only cool, but also makes this all white kitchen seem cozier.

Don't have the money for custom tiles? Try tile decals...a simple and easy way to get that cool blue and white look without the cost. The best part....change your look whenever the decorating bug hits.

Paint is still an inexpensive way of updating any room. The room above feels like a beach with it's soft color.
Using loads of white keeps it simple and really opens up the room.

Love the colors above....I've matched them to Sherwin-Willams paint.
Paint numbers added for you.

Adding cupboards and chairs in blues cool's any room down all year round.
I love the painted metal chairs around the table above.
They don't have to be metal...paint some wooden folding chairs in your favorite blue
or add a blue painted bench on one side with a couple mismatched chairs on the other.
Painted the same blue, everything will look as if they should be together.

Like a bold fun look..try a different blue on each chair!

Do you have some favorite blue and white ideas? I'd love to hear them.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. Love these ideas, Paula! My Mom loved blue. I like it too, but in the more subtle tones for my home. My new studio will probably have some of it, but it will only be little pops! Great to see you post gal!

Hope all is well at the farmhouse!!
    Love and hugs,
    Becky
